Sikhya Initiative
Education is the foundation for a bright future, and every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. At our organization, we are committed to finding innovative solutions that enable children in rural Punjab to access the education they need to unlock their full potential. Our mission is to support these children one by one, by providing them with the resources and support they need to thrive. We invite you to join us in this important work and help us make a positive impact on the lives of these children and their communities.
I am a practicing physician based in Northern California. I was born and raised in India, where I completed my schooling and medical education. At the age of 25, I moved to the United States. Driven by my deep desire to give back to the country that has shaped me and to continue my father in law's legacy of education, I have taken the initiative of supporting rural children by providing them with support and mentorship during their school years.
My father in law, Late Maj Naurata Singh Rangi, was a visionary who started Mata Sahib Kaur Public School in rural Punjab, near Chandigarh, with the support of Gurudwara Sahib in sector 34-C. What began with just one child has now grown into a K-12 school providing world-class education to 2500 children. The school has become a beacon of hope for the local community, providing quality education and empowering children to reach their fullest potential. With a strong focus on academic excellence, character development, and holistic growth, the school aims to shape young minds into responsible global citizens who can contribute positively to society.
My name is Jaiwant Rangi

Meet the Team
Our team for the rural education project is a diverse group comprising of middle school, high school, and college students who share a common vision of uplifting and empowering rural kids through education. We believe that education is the key to creating stronger, mentally stable, and happier communities, and we are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children in rural areas. Our goal is to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to avail opportunities anywhere in the world. With our collective passion and commitment, we strive to create a brighter future for all.
Our Projects
Our initiative to support the school has three main projects. The first project involves providing financial aid to challenged students, helping them pay their annual school fees and ensuring they have access to quality education. The second project focuses on mental health, aiming to address the mental wellbeing of students and provide support for those dealing with issues such as anxiety, depression, and peer pressure, particularly in light of the Covid-19 crisis. The third project is aimed at supporting infrastructure development in the school, to create a conducive learning environment for students and enhance the overall educational experience.
We are incredibly grateful for the support of all our donors, well-wishers, and project leaders. Without your dedication and support, none of this would be possible. We deeply appreciate your efforts and generosity, and we are truly thankful. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful project and make a positive impact on the lives of these students, fulfilling the vision of my late father-in-law to provide world-class education to rural children in Punjab.
Together, we can continue to transform lives through education and empower the next generation of leaders to create a brighter future for themselves and their communities. Thank you for joining me on this journey & for your unwavering support.
FINANCIAL
SUPPORT
Anika Madan and Reet Kaur Poonia are leading the charge in our initiative to support financially challenged students in their pursuit of education. As a high school junior at Rocklin High School and a middle school student at Rocklin Academy respectively, they bring a passion and dedication to the cause that is truly inspiring.
We understand that each student has unique needs, which is why the amount of financial assistance provided will vary based on factors such as class level, need for school lunch, use of school bus, or participation in sports. With a range from $150 to $500 per year, we aim to ensure that each student has access to the resources they need to succeed.
To simplify the donation process, we have implemented a streamlined system that begins at the start of each academic year, the principal will be sharing a list of needy children, with personal statements, contact information, parents info, profession, annual salary and the school's bank account details. Donors can then make direct payments to the school for the students they wish to support, eliminating any unnecessary barriers to giving. Our ultimate goal is to make a lasting difference in the lives of these deserving students, empowering them to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. We are grateful to all the donors who join us in this mission to support the education and well-being of these deserving students.
MENTAL WELLBEING
Our second project is focused on promoting mental well-being, an important aspect of education that is often overlooked. To lead this project, we have recruited Shreya Kamra, a senior at Pomona College in Southern California who is majoring in neuroscience. Shreya is deeply passionate about understanding the connections in the brain and how they relate to neurodevelopment, and she is committed to making a positive change in the world by promoting mental health. To achieve this goal, Shreya will create a structured curriculum that addresses various topics related to mental health. Her curriculum will provide valuable tools and techniques for coping with stress and anxiety, including practices based on science, nutrition, meditation, and gratitude.
These tools can help individuals achieve mental calm, better focus, and increased happiness, all of which are critical to overall well-being. We are fortunate to have her leadership, and we are confident that her comprehensive curriculum will provide valuable knowledge and tools to promote mental well-being among our target audience. In conclusion, by focusing on mental well-being, we are addressing an important aspect of education that is often overlooked. Through Shreya's leadership and her comprehensive curriculum, we aim to equip our students & teachers with valuable tools and techniques that can improve their overall well-being and help them cope with stress and anxiety.
INFRASTRUCTURE
DEVELOPMENT
The third project of our rural education empowerment initiative focuses on improving the infrastructure of the schools we support. Our goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and conducive learning environment for students and teachers alike. To achieve this, we have planned a fundraiser that will take place later in the year to raise funds for the project. There are various projects that we plan to support in this initiative.
Firstly, we aim to construct a ramp for handicapped children, providing them with easy access to the school. Additionally, we will provide wheelchairs and other amenities for handicapped children to ensure that they have equal access to education. To further enhance the learning experience, we plan to develop a nursery wing that will cater to the needs of young children. This will create a welcoming and nurturing environment for them to learn and grow. We also aim to construct a physics lab to provide students with a hands-on learning experience in the field of science. This will enable them to develop critical thinking skills and apply theoretical knowledge to practical applications.
Lastly, we plan to establish an academic office that will provide teachers with a comfortable environment to rest, rejuvenate, and prepare for their lectures and classes. Through these various projects, we aim to improve the infrastructure of the schools we support and create an environment that fosters learning and growth.
